One Campaign

We are incredibly excited for our future projects with the One Campaign, a international advocacy and campaigning organization. Watch this space for November 2017, we have some exciting projects planned! Until now, we visited the UK Houses of Parliament to support One's Walk-in, and held a discussion at One's offices.

Visit to the Houses of Parliament

This year, ONE launched a campaign called Poverty is Sexist highlighting the need for greater gender equality around the world. Ahead of International Women’s Day, hundreds of ONE supporters in more than a dozen cities around the world held a ‘walk in’ (a twist on the idea of a ‘walk out’ protest). They waked in to their elected officials’ offices in Parliaments to lobby on behalf of every girl denied an education.

In the UK, ONE is brought together young supporters from across the country to the Houses of Parliament to meet with MPs to talk about this issue and give them an opportunity to talk to powerful individuals who could change the lives of millions of girls. We sent 10 members to participate in the initiative. Members recieved training to make sure they have everything they need for their meeting and a member of staff will be on hand to answer any difficult questions.

Our members were able to actively contribute during the discussions and hear from some influential MPs – including Wendy Morton MP, Mhairi Black MP and Ivan Lewis MP.

Visit to the One Campaign

As part of a "Diplomacy in Action" collaboration, introduced by Vice-President Yi Jun Mock and held between the LSESU United Nations Society and the LSE SU Grimshaw International Relations Club we visited the ONE on April 24th!

Our members participated in a enriching meeting and discussion on the One Campaign, besides discussing future actions for students and youth.

We would like to extend our gratitude towards Campaign Coordinator Billy Hill for his insights and hospitality.

Members were able to hear fromBilly Hill, Campaigns Coordinator (UK & Ireland) on the The ONE Campaign - History, Purpose, and Campaigning. Robyn Detoro, Digital Assistant (Global) held a speech on using Social Media and Digital Marketing to Engage People. Finally, Saira O’Mallie, UK Director of ONE, shared her experience of working in global non-profit organizations.
